“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell you possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” – Luke 12:32-34

The word treasure is both magical and mysterious. It evokes images of pirates and dragons, beautiful castles and large caverns, gold, rubies and diamonds. We often think about treasure as this far off and unattainable collection that will bring us happiness. While these fanciful dreams can be defined as treasure, more often our treasures are found in our daily lives. Facebook, Instagram, cars, clothes, phones, our job, our spouse, our family; the list can go on and on. What do you think is on God’s list of treasures? His list of treasures is very simple: Us. How profound and humbling it is to realize that the God that created everything values us above all as His treasure. Knowing this, how should we organize our treasure list?

According to Luke, the Lord commands us to sell our earthly treasures for a treasure that will never rust, mold, rot, or die. What in this creation does not have an expiration date? The answer is again simple: Us. By design we are spiritual beings. We have a soul inside of us that will live on after the physical body dies. Now that is a treasure worth investing in! So how can we invest in our souls and the souls of those around us? It is not as the pirates and dragons of old handled their treasure – by hoarding and hiding it away – but by letting it shine brightly so others can see the glory of the One who created them.

SEEK, Haiti has taken this message to heart and chosen to invest in the souls of the youth of Haiti. We believe that through a gospel-centered education, the children of Haiti can let their own light of Christ grow in their souls and from there spread throughout their country, driving the darkness away. One of the organizations that we support is the Forde Christian Academy. Thanks for God’s provisions, the school has continued to grow and now has students from kindergarten through eighth grade! Unfortunately, the building currently has only enough classrooms for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The plan is to build two new classrooms for the students in kindergarten and to move the seventh and eighth grade students to the previously kindergarten classrooms. The total estimated cost of this project is $5,000. Thanks to generous donors we are able to send down $2,000 to help get this project started! Our prayer is that others would hear the calling to invest in the souls of these children so that they can continue to receive quality gospel-centered education!
