Sustainability. That has become an important word in the world and in our society. How can we use resources wisely and leave an inheritance for our children and grandchildren and all who come after us?

      Sustainability is also important for us as a nonprofit. Our entire mission is to encourage, build up, and support the expansion of education in Haiti, and to be a witness of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while we do so. Education in and of itself creates a positive feedback cycle, shaping and improving children’s lives and expanding their awareness of the world. This allows them to grow and contribute positively back into their families, towns, country, and world to create a brighter future with initially small changes that ripple outward to create bigger ones.

     The same things happen in faith. When children hear about Jesus and recognize Him in the lives of the people sharing the good news, it impacts first their lives and then the lives of their families and friends, bringing joy, peace, strength, and a greater purpose for using their education and other resources for good.

     SEEK, Haiti, is working to continue this emphasis on sustainability in the projects we support. Although some genuine needs are simple, one-time, and not as obviously long enduring, our goal is to make as many projects as possible sustainable and empowering for the people impacted by our work. How can each project contribute both immediately and longer-term to the good of those we are serving and to the goals of our mission? How can we encourage the people in Haiti to take initiative in these projects to enhance their lives and empower them in their daily living? The goat project is one example of how this works (see our previous posts for details), and we look forward to seeing how we can make this true in our future endeavors as well!
