Self-sustainability. Our desire is to encourage and build-up the people of Haiti to be able to provide for themselves and their loved ones. The Goat Project is one way of doing this that we are excited to be a part of.

The end goal of The Goat Project is to provide both funds and food to the Forde Christian Academy in Thomassique, Haiti, as well as the families of the students who attend. How this project works is that families who qualify for tuition assistance sign a contract with the Forde Christian Academy and are then allotted one goat. The contract states that the first-born goat is due to the school, while all subsequent births can be raised and sold by the family for their tuition money. This cycle will help the school’s goat herd to grow in size, all the while providing needing families a source of income as well as a source of food.

This is a wonderful way for SEEK, Haiti to encourage self-sustainability, but how can you help? As with most things, support is needed to make this vision a reality. First, your prayerful support is cherished above all. Specific items to pray for include:

• Health of the goats
• Fruitful returns from the goats
• Funding for the project

A second way in which you can support this project is through a financial gift. Sufficient funds are needed to get the project up and running, as well as to sustain it moving forward. Below is a list of the specific costs of starting and maintaining a goat farm in Haiti:

• Female Goat = $110-120
• Male Goat = $200-300
• Generator = $8,000
  • To produce electricity for the on-site water-well and for the caretakers living on the farm
• 3 Caretakers = $200 per person per month
  • Monthly total = $600
